El Portal del Mar
With an imposing location, El Portal del Mar reflects the possibility of living all year round in a house that reflects peace and warmth. The house, surrounded by nature, focuses all its views on the Mediterranean.
Considering the privileged location of the plot, on the edge of a cliff, the construction is based on erecting a house at any time of the day about the surroundings, maintaining a constant dialogue with its changes of light.
Starting with an opaque and introverted architecture, which is applied to the garage, the entrance porch and the main entrance, the house opens up progressively through covered outdoor courtyards, enclosed by columns made of the same stone used to build the Mallorca’s cathedral.
The layout of the walls is designed so that the house’s ground floor acts as a link between independent volumes.
In this way, the different rooms function simultaneously, with ceramic latticework protecting the most intimate areas and connecting them all with the longitudinal path the house traces from north to south.
“The route culminates in the open-air terrace, the garden area, and the swimming pool, which finally merges with the sea horizon”.
