Casa Voltant

From the dining table to side tables and armchairs, everything points to an idea of home that evolves with its inhabitants. A house designed to endure, to be lived in, and to age with character and elegance.
On a quiet plot in L’Eliana, on the outskirts of Valencia, stands Casa Voltant: a detached house whose form emerges from a central, almost botanical gesture.
Like a flower opening to the light, the house unfolds around a glazed courtyard that organises, connects, and gives meaning to every space in the project. This central void becomes a lung of natural light — a cohesive element that links every corner of the home, both visually and emotionally.
The project is conceived for a couple seeking a comfortable, functional home that welcomes children and grandchildren.
Casa Voltant is articulated through a series of volumes arranged around the patio, increasing in privacy as one moves through them. From the entrance, the sequence opens towards spaces visually connected to the rear garden: the study, the living room, the porch and, at the far end, the pool. A transparency that preserves intimacy while enhancing the experience of dwelling.

Primary program of the house.
The four volumes of the ground floor accommodate the main programme: garage and service areas in the first; study and guest bedroom in the second; main suite in the third — where the dressing room acts as a privacy filter between bedroom and bathroom —; and finally, the social heart of the house: living room, dining area and kitchen, completely open to the exterior and the porch, designed as an extension of the interior.
The project is articulated around three main lines: materiality, light and object, seeking a serene balance between contrast, warmth and timelessness.

Between these blocks appear “incisions” or passages that allow the garden to infiltrate the architecture, dissolving the boundaries between the inside and the outside.
Transitional spaces become essential.
When the ceiling height drops in the transition areas, each volume becomes more pronounced, giving the ensemble a richer and more nuanced spatial experience. This variation also responds to functional criteria: while the main volumes benefit from greater amplitude, the connecting routes adopt a more domestic, almost introspective scale.

In one of these volumes, a staircase concealed behind a piece of furniture leads to the upper floor, designed to host visiting family.
This deliberately discreet gesture maintains the horizontality of the ground floor — an explicit request from the owners — while introducing a vertical counterpoint that breaks the linearity of the whole.
The architecture of Casa Voltant speaks in subtleties.
The kitchen units stop short of the ceiling so as not to interfere with the volumetric reading of the space; skylights in the bathrooms bring in natural light without compromising privacy; and the main bedroom is sheltered from view thanks to a lateral access from the plot, which also leads to the outdoor paellero, carefully positioned so as not to interfere with interior vistas.

Light — both natural and artificial — is treated as an essential, almost narrative resource. It crosses the volumes, filters through openings, and creates reflections and shadows that shift throughout the day, bringing a silent cadence that accompanies everyday life.
